***LAST MINUTE UPDATE: REENACTMENT NEAR LIVE OAK, FLORIDA***

Nov 21-22 we will be at a reenactment, just north of Live Oak, FL at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. (386) 364-1683 http://www.musicliveshere.com/raidonsuwannee

Howdy,

What’s this, 2010 already? Where did the time go? Speaking of last minute news, we have been haggling for several months over a couple of jobs here in Florida and just recently got the go ahead on both of them. Two brand-new events for us and the organizers. Which means no unsightly String Band spoor cluttering up the landscape or clogging the customer’s pockets. The first is a reenactment being held at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park and the second is a candlelight tour at Fort Foster State Park near Tampa. We will be decoratively posed around the campfire at Fort Foster singing as the public shuffles past in small groups to see one of the few places in Florida that hasn’t been concreted over for a strip mall.

Having not learned our lesson at Alpena, Michigan, this February, we are once again heading North in the waning days of February 2010. We will be doing a reprise of our triumphant performances at the Chicago Maritime Festival of 2003 (hopefully without the ruptured radiator hose debacle again). One other vivid memory from the 2003 Chantey fest was roaring out of town heading south as the big, soft snowflakes came drifting out of the approaching storm.

This summer we were hired to play at a reenactment in Funkstown, MD. We drove all the way there in a haze of Disco madness singing, “Won’t you take me to, FUNKSTOWN!” A really nice event that was held on the actual site of some of the rear guard action during the retreat from Gettysburg. They closed off the main street of town for a running firefight after the confederate troops had foraged sacks of canned goods set out by the populace as donations to the local food drive. We got to watch a huge fireworks display during our break in the music on Saturday night. Cool beans.

Remember, Christmas is just around the corner, hiding from the Politically Correct Gestapo who want us all to update our holiday greeting to “Have a merry Rama-Hanu-Kwanz-mas”

It is becoming very difficult to get a schedule out with any certainty so pay attention to the question marks next to the date and don’t reschedule any life sustaining surgery just because we might be in town. Here is the latest listing of our appearances. Please call the venue to get directions and to make sure there has not been a cancellation or time change. ??? = Tentative.
